Unfortunately, there are foods on the market today that can attack your child’s little chompers and promote dental issues. It’s best to keep these foods away from your child’s smile so they can have the top-notch oral health they deserve. To help you do so, our dentists, Dr. Rafael A. Perez and Dr. Sarah Fritzsch, are happy to mention the different foods to avoid.
— The first is sticky and chewy foods. These foods, like dried fruit, honey, granola bars, and even gummy vitamins, usually contain sugar and they cling to the teeth for a long period of time. The longer your child’s teeth are exposed to sugar, the higher of a chance they’ll have cavities.
— The second is sour foods. These foods usually have acidic components in them. Acid attacks the tooth enamel, which is the hard, outer shell of the teeth, and makes the teeth vulnerable to dental issues. This can also make the smile sensitive.
— The third is starchy foods. Foods, like bread and potatoes, break down into sugar quickly when your child consumes them. As mentioned before, sugar can promote cavities. This doesn’t mean your child can’t eat these types of food, though. It just means you need to be careful and deeply clean your child’s smile soon after consuming them.
